HOW WE HELP

My Rehab Answers provides answers to many areas of recovery and rehabilitation.

They Include:

Surgeries

Surgeries

Your husband is scheduled for back surgery, and you want information to be able help him when he comes back home.  What equipment will you need?  How should you set up for home so that he can move around easier?  How will you help him in and out of bed/chairs/car/shower/toilet?  What does logroll mean and how do you do it?  What are his precautions / 3 movements he cannot do to protect his healing spine?  How do you manage the brace?  When should you contact the doctor?
Broken Leg and Weight Bearing

Broken Leg and Weight Bearing

You broke your leg.  Your doctor sends you home for two weeks non-weight bearing with a knee brace to wait for surgery.  You won’t get home health physical therapy until after surgery.  You are on your own.  How will you manage with a broken let?  What kind of help will you need?  What help should you ask for?  What equipment will you need? How should you set up your house?  What does ‘non-weightbearing’ even mean?  How do you manage your brace?  How can you safely manage pain and swelling?  How do you clean yourself, use the bathroom, get food?  What’s the best way to position and adjust your leg for comfort?
Home from Hospital

Home from Hospital

You are home from the hospital and have been getting home health physical therapy.  But, you have a caregiver who can’t be there when your therapist is there for training.  Your caregiver comes in the evening after work and wants training on how to help you get to the kitchen table for dinner, how to get you ready for bed, and how to help you get into bed.  They have notes from the therapist, but have questions and want to make sure they are doing it right.
Changing Diagnoses

Changing Diagnoses

You have been a caregiver for a couple years now.  But your mom just had a setback.  She ended up in the hospital with a new diagnosis, weakness, and requires more help from you for transfers. You have to get extra equipment to help her, like a wheelchair and a hospital bed.  How should you set it all up?  How do you use the new equipment safely?  How do you keep her safe?  How do you keep yourself safe and protect your body while doing more lifting with transfers and moving?  How much should you let her continue to do on her own?  What’s the best way to help her get dressed, use the bathroom, bathe, eat? Do you need modifications to your home?
PT therapists

Leslie Erwin PT, DPT, CSRS

I have worked as a physical therapist for the past 18 years in inpatient rehab and home health. I work with people with a variety of diagnoses and needs. I noticed many people and caregivers have a lot of questions when they return home from the hospital. I’d like to be an online resource for education and support to help patients and caregivers. I can help in many different ways: make your home safer, transfer training, equipment needs, how to
correctly do or progress exercises, bladder / incontinence management, understanding discharge instructions, referrals to other Healthcare professionals. I can make returning home easier and safer for you and your family.

I’d love to help you or your family, either via a video call, a phone call, or an email membership!
