08 Jul The Power of Prevention: Staying at home longer: from 10/07/2025
Hello!
We all want to stay in our homes, and not have to move in with our children or into an assisted living facility or a nursing home. How do you make this happen? Prevention!!
When it comes to health and mobility, many people wait until something goes wrong – a fall, a hospital stay, or a new diagnosis – and react to the situation. But, the truth is, many of those challenges can be avoided or reduced with a few proactive steps. You don’t need to wait for a crisis to strengthen your balance, review your medications, or make your home safer.
Small changes make a big difference.
Home safety checks. Remove hazards, add grab bars, improve lighting – now.
Movement and strength training. Even light daily exercise and walking keeps joints moving and muscles strong.
Regular vision and hearing checks. Vision and hearing both are important in balance and preventing falls!
Support systems. Have a plan in place, like a trusted friend, family member, or professional you can call.
Prevention helps caregivers too.
Caring for a loved one is easier when their environment and routines are set up for safety and independence. That means fewer emergencies, less lifting, and more confidence that they can manage day to day.
